BRACKETT ISD HONORED AT THE STATE LEVEL

On Wednesday, February 6th, BISD Science Teacher and Project Green Sponsor, Mrs. Marla Hibbitts, along with Emma Paxton, Cohen Bonner, and Lucinda Mancha represented BISD at the Annual Texas Association of Regional Councils, Solid Waste Planner Association Meeting. Brackett ISD was highlighted as one of only two schools in this region that have implemented a successful recycling program. The presentation included a video produced by Emma Paxton which can be viewed on the BISD website at www.brackettisd.net. BISD was also highlighted in the Recycling Today Magazine. You can locate the article at: http://www.wastetodaymagazine.com/article/think-big-start-small/

Brackett ISD’s recycling efforts are due to the leadership of Teachers Marla Hibbitts and Allison Watkinson.  They sponsor recycling groups and project green and have been extremely successful.  A huge thanks to Ft. Clark Spring Recycling Center for taking our recyclable items.  BISD has been the recipient of nearly $20,000 in MRGDC and CTRA recycling grants over the past four years.  These funds have provided recycling bins for the district along with a recycling trailer. BISD hopes to expand the recycling program into the community in an effort to keep waste from going to landfills.
