Brackett ISD has established clear guidelines for the use of personal devices on campus to ensure a safe, focused, and productive learning environment for all students and staff. Below are the guidelines you need to be aware of when bringing and using personal devices at school:

1. General Guidelines for All Students and Staff

  • Educational Purposes Only: Personal devices, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones, should be used primarily for educational purposes while on school grounds. This includes accessing digital textbooks, educational apps, research, and other classroom activities.

  • Respect for Privacy: Students and staff must respect each other’s privacy. Recording or photographing others without their permission is strictly prohibited.

  • No Public Wi-Fi: As a reminder, Brackett ISD does not provide free public Wi-Fi on campus. Students must use their school-issued devices for internet access, while staff should contact tech support for secure access.

2. Specific Guidelines for Students

  • Classroom Use: Students may use personal devices in the classroom only when permitted by the teacher. Teachers have the discretion to decide when and how devices can be used to support learning activities.

  • Hallways and Restrooms: Cell phones and other personal devices are not allowed to be used in hallways or restrooms. This policy is in place to prevent distractions, maintain privacy, and ensure student safety. Students found using devices in these areas may have them confiscated.

  • Device Responsibility: Students are responsible for their devices at all times. The school is not liable for any lost, stolen, or damaged personal devices.

3. Specific Guidelines for Staff

  • Professional Use: Staff members are encouraged to use personal devices for professional purposes related to teaching and administrative work. Non-work-related usage should be limited to non-instructional time.

  • Secure Data Handling: Staff must ensure that any sensitive information accessed or stored on personal devices is secure and complies with district data protection policies.

4. Consequences for Misuse

Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in consequences, including but not limited to:

  • Confiscation of the device

  • Parent/guardian notification

  • Suspension of the privilege to bring a personal device to school

  • Disciplinary actions in accordance with the student or staff handbook
