Brackett ISD Modified Schedule Announcement
March 30th through April 17th

Released: Friday, March 27, 2020

Brackett ISD Families, Employees, and Constituents:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Abbott’s declaration of a disaster for the State of Texas remains in effect. Please be informed that Brackett ISD will be extending its current modified schedule from March 30, 2020 to April 17, 2020. Brackett ISD will continue to communicate every Friday during this time to provide updated information on district services to our students.

BISD will continue to take necessary precautions in an effort to protect the health and safety of all of its people. According to Henry Garcia, Kinney County EMS Director, currently there are zero confirmed cases within Kinney County or anyone within BISD. We urge everyone to join our efforts and stay home unless of an absolute need to venture out. By us as a community, and only with a community joint effort, are we able to protect ourselves and families to slow (hopefully prevent) the spread of the COVID-19 virus into Kinney County. As new confirmed cases arise outside of Kinney County, please know that COVID-19 may infect anyone regardless of age, health, gender, race, and lifestyle. Every member of our community can help by doing your part and stay home.

Please be mindful that while BISD is on a modified schedule, BISD is considered closed. Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath has defined a closed school or closure as a school when students are not attending class inside a school building, even though students are receiving education instruction remotely. BISD will continue on our current delivery of instruction Monday through Friday, 7:55 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. Our Governor and Commissioner encouraged all Texas school districts to provide some type of home based instruction.

In an effort to adhere to the CDC’s and Kinney County officials recommendation of limiting gathering to under 10 people, BISD will continue to provide services to our constituents differently. Central office will remain available 7:55 a.m. – 3:35 p.m. Due to minimal staff, BISD Central Office may be closed from 12:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for lunch. Central Office hours will continue on this schedule until further notice. In case a need arises by a parent or anyone, please call our office at (830) 563-2491, it will be our pleasure to provide you with assistance. Additionally, parents may contact their student’s principal via telephone or email. Principals will remain active to provide service to our students, families, and employees.

The remote instruction has presented new challenges to us all. Our teachers and campus staff are making a bad situation into a productive one. Our teachers are trying new ways of delivering instruction and pushing some limits. Our teachers have been helping each other out to best provide educational continuity to our students and support our families. Teacher, counselors, and principals should be commended for their focus to continue service our children. BISD continues to explore avenues and strategies to service all students.

Moreover, BISD will continue to provide meals, breakfast and lunch, to students during the modified schedule. Anyone age 18 or under is eligible to pick up meals. We ask that our families please drive through the back gate on Fort Street. Please do not get off your vehicle, the meal(s) will be delivered to your car. These past couple of weeks, BISD has served hundreds of meals per day every day. We enjoy seeing our students and families. We also want to thank our folks preparing and handing out the meals.

We ask BISD employees if they are sick to please stay home and contact their supervisor. The modified schedule for the following week is detailed below:

Brackett ISD appreciates the cooperation of all. We know that the schedule may present inconveniences and problems for many BISD constituents. The developments of the COVID-19 virus and the actions our society is taking are fluid and unprecedented. There are and will be many concerns that arise from many aspects. We will continue to work through these concerns; we do ask for patience as we work diligently. Please check our Brackett ISD Website, Facebook, or call our offices (830.563.2491) for official information. As previously communicated, our intent is to slow (hopefully prevent) the spread of the COVID-19 virus in an effort to protect the health of our student’s, employees, and community.

We thank each of you for your cooperation and willingness to work with us.

Guillermo Mancha, Jr., Ed. D.
