English III-5 Assignments

Your second type of formal letter writing will be - Letter of Intent.  These are used when you are job hunting, and when you are wanting to introduce yourself to  employers.  Attached are some pointers about letter of intents.  For your Letter of Intent you will need - 

1. Pick a company or organization you are wanting to introduce yourself to.  This could be job related
2. Your Intro will need 2-3 sentences
3. Body 5 sentences minimum
4. Call to Action - 3-5 sentences

This week we are focusing on formal letter writing.  For today's assignment, you will be writing a formal business letter to someone employed by the school.  This could be a letter to - Mr. Jimenez (change dress code, more parking, etc.), the cafeteria (more food choices), Counselor (class choices).  

Attached is an example and a blueprint to follow.  You will also need to have the following -
1. Introduction (must have 5 sentences)
2. Body (must be at least 5 sentences)
3. Closing (3-5 Sentences)

You need to be realistic with these letters.  Concentrate on word choice, sentence structure and purpose.

We are taking a little break from our usually scheduled programming.  Attached you'll find an essay prompt.  This is due Monday.  On Monday you will get the second part (the art part).  

Continue and finish your novel - DWW.  AR is due next Wednesday.

Ladies and Gentlemen - This essay prompt as stated is optional.  However, should you decide to complete this assignment and turn it in by the due date and time the grade for said essay will replace your lowest classwork/homework grade for this class.  For some of you this could really help.

Your essay needs to be well thought out and have evidence from the novel to back up your story.

In the google doc, provide a 2 paragraph summary of the events that Tom and Becky experienced in the cave.

Chapter 7 showcases young Tom's infatuation with Becky.  In the attached Doc compose an essay that compares and contrasts dating in Tom Sawyer's time with dating today.  

Use different organizational methods - whole to whole, similarities to differences, or point by point.

Read the attached doc and complete the assignment.  Remember that when you are looking at the possible definitions, you will need to find the ones that are being used in the context of the novel.
