English IV period 2-2 Assignments

Your second type of formal letter writing will be - Letter of Intent.  These are used when you are job hunting, and when you are wanting to introduce yourself to  employers.  Attached are some pointers about letter of intents.  For your Letter of Intent you will need - 

1. Pick a company or organization you are wanting to introduce yourself to.  This could be job related
2. Your Intro will need 2-3 sentences
3. Body 5 sentences minimum
4. Call to Action - 3-5 sentences

This week we are focusing on formal letter writing.  For today's assignment, you will be writing a formal business letter to someone employed by the school.  This could be a letter to - Mr. Jimenez (change dress code, more parking, etc.), the cafeteria (more food choices), Counselor (class choices).  

Attached is an example and a blueprint to follow.  You will also need to have the following -
1. Introduction (must have 5 sentences)
2. Body (must be at least 5 sentences)
3. Closing (3-5 Sentences)

You need to be realistic with these letters.  Concentrate on word choice, sentence structure and purpose.

With that heart mushy holiday around the corner, let's have some fun with poetry.  Your task is to make a lovely heartfelt booklet for a loved one - this could be auntie, uncle, Granny, Pawpaw, Meemaw, Mom, Dad, brother sister your dog Fred or just plain ole Bob.  

Your booklet needs to have 3 different types of poems about why you treasure, appreciate, are thankful, etc... for that person.  It could be an acrostic poem, a haiku, a silly rhyming poem, whatever you are comfortable with.  I have art supplies in the room, but feel free to bring your own.   These will be due on Thursday so I can grade and get them back to you before valentines.

With this being Chaos... I mean Homecoming week, our schedules are probably going to be all over the place.  This week we need to complete Act IV, which we began last week with the return of the 3 witches and their new prophecies.  You will need to by Friday, complete Act IV.  Attached are the reading questions that go along with it.
